Solstice captures the unimaginable vastness of our planet from a unique perspective. Photographed by Brett in the deserts of western Utah, this incredible landscape showcases the grand scale and unusual patterns of the Bonneville Salt Flats. This rare shot is a product of three days of scouting the desert floor and waiting for perfect light. Brett decided to film in the late evening. “The sky was illuminated with a thin layer of haze” recalls Brett. “It was smoke from wildfires hundreds of miles away in California creating an awesome mixture of soft light and bright colors. It was the perfect conditions for me as the setting sun lit up the sky and refracted down upon these rare salt patterns.”
Brett has taken long exposure photography to a new level with Infinity, a rare photograph of famous Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. “I was patiently watching a magnificent sunset fall upon the arch” recalls Brett. “But I wasn’t there to photograph a sunset.” As light turned to dark the stars began to paint the sky. The Milky Way shifted from left to right as Brett aligned his camera on the sandstone slope below. Taking only a 45 second exposure and pushing his camera aperture to the limit to reduce the effects of the Earth’s rotation, Brett captured Infinity when the Milky Way was framed by this iconic landmark.
Exposure was filmed on the rugged beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and is a true artistic expression of Brett’s passion for long exposure photography and pushing the limits of our perception on the world around us. Utilizing advanced equipment that can capture such detail during several minutes, the calm ocean in front of Brett’s lens magically painted this image on film. Exposure will surely become a classic and is one of Brett’s favorite prints. It is available in a limited edition of 250 prints.
As the sun set upon Monument Valley, a special land to the Navajo people in southern Utah, Brett wanted to capture the simplicity of this vast and amazing landscape. He first saw Monument Valley as a young child and had come back several times to experience this peaceful place. Although the nearby town had changed considerably and it has begun to turn into a tourist attraction, Monument Valley is still a place where if you venture off the beaten path there are new landscapes to discover in every direction.
Alpine Dream presents the grandier and elegance of the Colorado Rockies in a single shot. Brett woke up early several mornings in a row and traveled to this peaceful place along the edge of Maroon Lake in hopes of perfect light. “The clouds circling this perfect mountain range was stunning. I’d never seen such a formation in the American Rockies and I was really excited.” recalls Brett about the morning he captured Alpine Dream. “I had been here many times before but nothing had struck me like this!” Brett used a long exposure to capture this image before sunrise and had a polarizing filter to capture a partial reflection of the Maroon Bells in the lake but also to reveal the depth and clarity of the lake itself.
