Earth highlights the intricate, yet powerful forces of the Atlantic Ocean. Photographed on an early spring day, Brett traveled to a secluded beach where he was overwhelmed by the shapes and forms in the sand. “It was just one of those mornings where everything glistened as the sun rose over the horizon.” recalls Brett. “It was just… perfect. I was captivated by the colors and shapes carved into the beach by the outgoing tide. Mini sandbars were everywhere and it was difficult to pick just one subject to film.”
Southern Light is the result of a year-long quest to film this dramatic pier in the perfect light. Brett’s determination to get the perfect shot paid off. “From the moment I found this site I knew it had the potential to be an amazing image. I came back again and again and finally got the perfect sunset I had been looking for.” recalls Brett about the April evening he took this image. “It was a magical night on the Gulf of Mexico.” Utilizing sturdy equipment to hold his camera perfectly still, Brett composed the shot and used a very long exposure to capture the fleeting light as it took refuge behind the horizon. It was nearly dark by the time the camera completed the exposure which is what brings such dramatic color to the sky, water and sand.
Mystere is a dreamy photograph of a crystal clear river in a small slot canyon in Southern Utah. Brett was captivated by an unusual crack in the stone where water seemed to jet through it, carving it deeper and deeper. “I immediately saw the photograph in my mind. A cloud trapped between two stones.” recalls Brett. “I knew that with the right exposure I could turn the water into fog and at the same time capture the goldish reflection of the warm canyon walls above.” Being careful not to slip, Brett stabilized his tripod and captured the shot. The result is a magical image that can be displayed horizontally or vertically.
Brett had traveled endlessly for months before he arrived at this magical lake on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe on a summer evening. Here he found peace and for the first moment in some time was able to reflect on his journey that brought him here. He had explored 25 states, driven 14,000 miles, and hiked endless trails in search of natural beauty and perfect light. It was this calm… found right here… at this moment… that he had been looking for. It reminded him of what summer felt like as a child. There was an innocence about this place. As if time, although fleeting, seemed to stand still.
